Clairton Police Department

Some of the latest developments are the T.I.P.(Turn In Pushers) sheets and the Neighborhood Task Force. This is an intervention which allows local citizens to report possible drug activity occuring in their neighborhood anonymously. Some of the suspious behaviors noted are exchanges of money and/or packages from car windows, car horn signals and unusual late night traffic and/or activity. These are obvious signs of drug dealing or illegal activities. This information can be faxed to (412) 233-3036, mailed or called into the police department at (412)233-8113 Ext. 31 where an investigation will be initiated.

However, the Neighborhood Task Force is an opportunity for citizens to play an active role in dealing with litter and crime problems plagueing the city. They are consistently recruiting citizens as volunteers and leaders to make this program a success. this program is an initiative to help rebuild the city making it a better community. This program will utilize various resources to aid in teaching citizens safety, and awareness tactics on how to deal with current problems affecting their neighborhood. This is an ongoing program that meets quarterly. For more information, please don't hesitate to call Ralph Imbrogno, City Manager at (412) 233-8113 or (412) 233-6924

Clairton Fire Department

In 1987, City Council of Clairton asked Cheif of Jefferson 885 VFD John Lattanzi to become the Fire Chief for the City of Clairton. Chief Lattanzi accepted and was appointed in January 1988. His goal was to develop a volunteer fire department to assist the paid firefighters. He acheived this task with the assistance of other VFD's, grants from the Council of Governments and donations. So, on April 25, 1988 the Clairton Volunteer Fire Department was erected. Soon he was given another challenge to develop adequate EMS coverage of both Clairton and Glassport. Equipped with a strategic plan, Chief Lattanzi secured an agreement with Lifestar and volunteers to provide EMS coverage to Clairton residents. Due to unforseen circumstances, the contract was terminated. In 1996 when the contract was up for renewal, a proposal submitted by the Fire Chief and Medical Director was passed by City Council. This proposal would allow the Fire Department to have the entire city contract for EMS services.

Today the Fire and EMS department has grown employing 40 EMT's and paramedics providing Clairton with 24 hour coverage per day and Glassport 16 hours per day. In order to meet Federal and State guidelines, each member of the department must be certified in both Firefighter and EMS training. In 2004, the Fire Department answered 243 calls and EMS 3425 calls between the Clairton and Glassport Base. The City Council of Clairton along with the Fire Chief remain dedicated to the volunteers assuring adequate training and the purchase or donation of new equipment. The Fire Department along with EMS have a fleet of 14 pieces of equipment utilized for Rescue, Haz-mat,Scuba and First Responders. The newest equipment purchased was a new Aerial Tower in order to provide assistance to the Larger buildings located within the city. These departments are also involved in numerous community projects, parades, competitions and fundraising activities. To date they have won several awards for Best Rescue, Best Aerial and Best Appearing Company. One of their biggest events in Clairton is their Annual Fair and Fireman's Parade which usually occurs in late August.

Firefighter's Prayer

When I am called to duty,
GodWherever flames may rage
Give me strength to save a life
Whatever be its age.

Let me embrace a little child
Before it is too late
Or save an older person from
The horror of that fate.

Enable me to be alert
And hear the weakest shout
And quickly and efficiently
To put the fire out.

I want to fill my calling
To give the best in me
To guard my friend and neighbor
And protect their property.

And, if according to your will
I have to lose my life
Please bless with your protecting hand
My family and my wife.
